Sun Valley Goverment
Sun Valley, Ketchum, Hailey, Bellevue and Carey are the towns in Blaine County. All are goverened by an elected mayor and a city council. In addition, the county is governed by a three member Board of Commissioners. Ketchum, Hailey and Sun Valley have full-time city administrators.
City planners in Ketchum and Sun Valley work with appointed planning commissions on the development and implementation of planning objectives and zoning ordinances. Blaine County has a six person planning department and the City of Hailey has a city planner who works with its planning and zoning commission.
Effective and responsive law enforcement is provided by the State of Idaho, Blaine County and the city police departments.
Fire protection in the north county is provided by five stations, ten full-time permanent firefighters (who are also Emergency Medical Technicians), two full time fire chiefs and a large group of paid on call volunteers. An aerial platform ladder truck, pumpers and two ambulances outfitted with the latest in medical equipment have led to a Fire Insurance Rate Classification of 4 in Ketchum, and 5 in Sun Valley. The south county is served by three fire stations, three ambulances and its own network of volunteer firefighters and equipment, including an aerial platform ladder truck, pumpers and a one-ton quick response van. The entire county is linked by 911 emergency dispatch centers which are staffed by trained Emergency Medical Dispatchers.
